The Bethune Campus

Welcome to Béthune, a town of some 25,000 inhabitants.

Béthune is fortunate to be part of the French high-speed train network, with the train station being less than one kilometer from the university campus to which it is connected through a very efficient and reliable bus service. From the rail station, the region’s key locations are within easy reach: Lille is only 30 minutes away; Paris about an hour; whilst the Belgian capital Brussels is only an hour and a half away.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences

The university is situated in the Futura Technopark, about 20 minutes on foot from the centre of town. The Béthune campus is made up of two establishments – the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the University Institute of Technology, and together they make up the university’s technological core.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) was established in 1992 which means that its infrastructure and facilities are relatively recent and are continuously modernized. FAS offers  both undergraduate and postgraduate courses along with PhD degrees specialized in the following fields of  Engineering Sciences:  Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

FAS offers both further and on-going degrees in accordance with the European framework of Licence (3 years), Master (2 years) and Doctorate (3 years). There are vocational training courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, using what is referred to as the ‘block release system’.

FAS possesses three research laboratories in each of the related teaching fields:

■ Civil and Geo-Environmental Laboratory (LGCgE – EA 4515)
Research Director: Isaml Shahour

■ Environmental and Electrotechnical Systems Engineering  Laboratory (LSEE – EA 4025)
Research Director: Jean-Philippe Lecointe

■ Artois Computer Engineering and Automation Laboratory (LGI2A – EA 3926)
Research Director: Gilles Goncalves

Each year FAS welcomes about 900 students and this human scale is one of the main factors contributing to the warm, caring and friendly environment  which students find there.

Along  with FAS and the University Institute of Technology, the Béthune Campus also has a university library; a couple of student halls of residence; a student restaurant; and a sports hall with a multisports ground and a fully-equipped weights room. There is also a Language Centre which students may use to improve the foreign language skills.

Each year, FAS welcomes numerous international students from all over the world and we would be delighted to have you as one of our many new students next year!
