The University of Artois

 The Universite d’Artois, located in the North of France. was created in 1992. It is a scientific, cultural and professional University which is multidisciplinary on 10 sites: Arras, Bethune, Douai, Gravelines, Lens, Liévin, Lille, Outreau, Valenciennes, Villeneuve d’Ascq.

 

Sixteen thousand students are registered in our University with 839 lecturers teaching courses in various curriculums. Our University has the following education and research centres:

Bethune I.U.T

 The Institute of Technology (I.U.T) in Bethune (North of France) is a part of the University of Artois founded in 1992. However, our institute has existed since 1969, where it was part of the University of Lille. At present, the number of students is approximately one thousand scattered among the following six departments of industrial technology:

---  Electrical Engineering  G.E.I.I

---  Civil Engineering  G.C

---  Mechanical and production Engineering G.M.P

---  Chemistry  CH

---  Production management   Q.L.I.O

---  Network and telecommunication  R.T

A continuing education service, and an international relationship office, has been set up to extend the influence of our polytechnic.

 

The I.U.T’s curriculum covers the two first years of the bachelor degree. The students receive a full time training of 1800 hours to become high technician. Theoretical and practical training permit the students to join a company, or to continue their studies to achieve a higher qualification.

The Electrical Engineering department

 The training team is composed of 15 teachers from various specialities. The students achieve a general competence in the field of the Electrical Engineering and also a general knowledge.

 

The curriculum of one year is divided in three units:

---  science and humanities: mathematics, physics, communication skills and English.

---  electrical engineering:  electricity, electronics, mechatronics and electroenergetics.

--- process, automation, industrial system control, PLC and microprocessor programming, object-oriented programming.

 

The feature of the I.U.T’s curriculum is the large number of practical training hours. Approximately 50% of the 1800 contacts hours comprise laboratory and supervised project work.

 

At the end of the second year, the student has to attend a 10 week internship in France. Alternatively he can go abroad.

 

The successful student, a specialist in electrical systems and information technology, receives a University in Technology diploma (D.U.T) at the end of the two year course.
